Photography has been an interest of mine since I was a child. My dad always had a darkroom and was always taking pictures of the family as well as the city we lived in, Hong Kong. I used to love walking around taking pictures of the colonial architecture. 

Since those days, I’ve found my interest move to people. There is something about people and their uniqueness that draws me in. Sometimes its like their life experiences just leak out of their face. 

I had the idea for this project in the middle of the night. It’s a great merging of several motivators for me. First, there are the faces, always interesting! Second, I’m recently retired so it gets me out of the house :). I’m also an introvert so it’s good for me to get out and talk to people I don’t know, even if the conversation is a short one. 

If you’ve heard the expression “out of the heart the mouth speaks” you can also imagine that tattoos also are a way of speaking. Hearing the story is a way we’re helped to interpret what’s being said by the tattoo. 

Thanks for taking the time to look at this project. My hope is that it will continue to grow over time as I gain more experience. I’m living in Seattle, so for now most of the pictures of from people around various parts of the city. As I travel I hope to include people from the places I visit.
